The Facts of My Life July 6, 2009
Posted by brandy in anger and I have sat down for tea, blame country music, confession of the day, don't judge me based on my love for bad music, earning my dork badge, famous people make for good gossip, find the dorkiest sentence in this, games we play, let's still be friends?, lists, music, oh look! i have opinions., the one that nobody reads because of the title, wasting time, when i say it anyway, youtubing it in.trackback
Fact: I will be unable to tell people I’m going to a Taylor Swift concert this week without squealing like I’m a 14 year old girl. Which is perfect really, because that would make me fit into her actual demographic. (Related fact: This might be the cutest video ever. I’m only glad that I’m watching it at 28 years old instead of 14 years old because it would have just set unrealistic standards of what high school love is like. Not like now… now I watch The Notebook weekly to make sure my expectations are unreasonable.)
Fact: I should be embarrassed about the previous Fact but I embrace my music choices the way that Liz Taylor embraces blue eyeshadow. Seriously, I saw a picture of her the other day, holy hell that cat works the colors in her make up box. (As for music, one of the worst fights I ever had with a boy was when he point blank told me he would NEVER go to a Matchbox 20 concert with me, even if it was my birthday, even if it was my dying wish. Needless to say, that relationship didn’t last but my love for music from the 90’s featuring the smooth vocal styling of Rob Thomas is still going strong).
Fact: If I hear anymore about Michael Jackson, I may start drinking tequila straight from the bottle. And let me tell you my pretties, that would be a step backwards in my ongoing quest to be the less annoying, younger, white, Canadian version of Oprah.
Fact: The latest developments on The Bachelorette had me standing on my couch cheering for all women who deserve to date people who aren’t COMPLETE ASSHOLES. Seriously, I don’t want to be a ruiner for those who haven’t seen it but what the hell? How does that even happen? It’s like someone took the worst, most egotistical and diabolical parts of a bunch of people, mashed them all into one person who really needs to branch out in the clothing department and named him WES.
Fact: I’m preeeeeetty sure I won last weeks Gross Out game. I try not to spend too long reflecting on it or else I will most likely start to gag. Of course, my opponent would say he won. He’s difficult like that. (As for the questions that got asked, all I will say is sweet goodness- I will never be the same. Ever. Maxie, my offer to supply you with some WYR’s if ever needed stands. If you can handle it. The stuff that got discussed takes disgusting to a whole new level).
Fact: I like the pouring rain more than I love the sun. I suspect this means I have an underlying emo gene in my DNA.
Let’s see, referenced my love for Matchbox 20, linked to a Taylor Swift clip and admitted my relationship expectations are established by watching movies based on Nicholas Sparks novels. Yup, my work here is done.

I’m impressed. I didn’t think you had the gross out in you! If you’re going to start swigging tequila from the bottle, though, I request you have someone with a camera follow you around…all the time.
That would be the most frightening video ever.
i am a die hard taylor fan. NO SHAME!
and wes? i have no words.
Yes! On both accounts. That Wes… bastard.
I got my high school boyfriend to go to an MB20 concert… but we’re no longer together. I still love Matchbox Twenty, though.
You got a boy to go with you? Well I bow to you. You have succeeded where I failed.
This is why we should be BFFs. I’d totally go to a MB20 concert with you. I was actually listening to them on my ipod yesterday, and thought of how much fun AB would make of me if he knew.
Also, I’m with you on the MJ. He’s caused the cancellation of my fav show TWO Monday’s in a row which is just totally unacceptable in my book.
Aww! See?! I feel better knowing I’m not alone in the MB20 love.
I had never seen that video and now want to both make out with the cute boy (even though I am probably old enough to be his mom) and make out with Taylor Swift. Repeatedly. With tongue.
Oh, and ditto on MJ. Can’t they just bury the dude already? Ugh.
Yeah, the MJ stuff is tragic but it’s just… overwhelmed every single form of media and there’s so much other stuff going on that I think is far more important than the death of a celebrity- regardless of how iconic they were.
Wait, you’re not going to post the specifics of your gross-out game domination! *bummed*
Oh trust me. The world is better off not knowing…
1) I hope you’re planning on wearing boots with a skirt to that concert, Missy. That is the required uniform, you know.
2) I’m so with you on the tequila and the MJ. Holy crap I’m pretty sure if these people weren’t already dead our media outlets would beat them to death. Geez Louise!
3) I am also with you on The Bachelorette, though I have not watched it. But, oh, I can imagine.
4) I forget what else I was going to say.
5) Sorry about the “Missy” thing. No idea where that came from.
I’ve only watched 2 episodes of The Bachelorette and I’m so intrigued at what happens on the finale. Oh ABC reality tv, how you delight me.
haha.. Let’s see, I have to say I’m not a Taylor Swift fan, BUT I do admire your ability to embrace your 14-year old inner self
haha.
Nevertheless, I DO definitely agree with you about the fact that Rob Thomas is still the best (although I like Matchbox 20 better than Rob solo), Nicholas Sparks’ books/movies are the best, even if they do make me have completely irrational annoying boy standards.. and, I love Michael Jackson.. so I don’t agree with you on that one.
Good Post!
I try and remind myself that The Notebook is unhealthy but when Ryan Gosling stands wrapped in that blanket? Sweet mother. My heart fills with the kind of joy that should be illegal it feels so good.
I do like T.Swift too (she is so cute in interviews), and that song is so cute and the video is so cute…except…why does wearing glasses (ok, those were a bit exaggerated) make someone a geek? And why does someone have to take off their glasses to go to prom and look beautiful? As a bespectacled plain jane, that who issue has always bothered me. The girls with the glasses never get the cute boys.
I thought the same thing when i first watched it!! I was really hoping that she would pull her glasses out at prom and he would still love her… i think not wearing the glasses sends the wrong message. Boo.
(I say this as someone who never wears her glasses but should).
You’re not at all alone on the Taylor Swift thing.
Good!
I LOVE Taylor Swift… I saw her CountryFest at the end of June, and she was the best of the 20 concerts we saw that weekend. THE. BEST. That includes being better than Montgomery Gentry and Brad Paisley.
I’m hoping to get tickets to her show here in October. They don’t go on sale ’til mid-August though.
Also, totally with you on the MJ thing for sure.
Oh Brad Paisley, I want to see him too!
Just wait until you are actually at the concert and you’re jumping up and down, squeeeing like you’ve never squee’ed before and then she comes into the audience and you knock an actual 14 year old girl out of the way to get closer to her. Then you might really have a problem. But you won’t be the only one.
Oh the smooth voice of Rob Thomas… *sigh* I’m still in love.
I miss the 90’s
I’m still a huge MB20 fan! Rob Thomas is on my “list” if you know what I mean. I guess the fact that I didn’t know there was any social objection to MB20 just highlights my social awkwardness.
My ex boyfriend had an objection to anything mainstream, so if you like jeans, he would probably think you too ‘mainstream’. MB20 forever.
Rob Thomas is wonderful! I’D go with you to a concert, dying wish or not!
I already like you more than I like my ex boyfriend.
You are so highly entertaining, in a good way. No, in a GREAT way. I’m not ashamed of my musical leanings, either, and some of them are a lot more eyebrow-raising than Taylor Swift.
Did Rob Thomas really want to “push” her around?
Quite refreshing to know that someone else out there has been repeatedly watching that video, in the same way that it’s reassuring that Taylor Swift dances in front of the mirror in same style I do.
I’m probably more tragic then you lovie, my hair is now dry, split and tries to hide when it sees my GHD, thanks to my repeated efforts to create TS hair…I’m 23, but my heart yells ‘13′.
i second your thoughts on bachelorette….i wanted to scream and throw shoes at the tv last night!!
YAY for Matchbox 20 !!!
this is hilarious! I love Taylor Swift. I’m not proud of it because my daughter (8) also loves her so it’s kinda weird. But whatever…
That boy who wouldn’t go to a Matchbox20 concert with you was a LOOOOOOSER.
I caught myself singing along with a Jonas Bros. song the other day. I guess we’re all about 14 on the inside.
I’m Loretta and I’m 28 and I love Taylor Swift.
(hi Loretta!)
Even Hubby, a musician himself, hates Wes. And he BARELY watched the Bachelorette. And how can you NOT love Taylor. Have fun!
I love Taylor Swift! I’m pretty sure her demographic goes up higher than we think in age. And if it makes you feel better, I was looking through my 26 year old sister’s iPod this weekend to find the entire Nick Lachey album. Yes, she paid money for the Nick Lachey album.
Just when I was absolutely certain that Spencer Pratt was the devil incarnate, Wes came on the scene. He is the personification of all that is wrong with the male gender. x100. HATE.
You are hilarious! And, you’re totally right, that Wes is such a douchebag he may actually be a sociopath.
I have to admit that I love Taylor Swift and Matchbox 20 too. And I have a Nicholas Sparks novel waiting for me at the library right now. Partially because someone told me it reminded them of The West Wing, but shush.
your work here is done. this post is a win.
we both love ryan gosling.
woot!
I’m going to the Taylor/Kenny show in Edmonton this week. I’ve been a bundle of excitement, believe you me!
I think Wes may have now beaten Jason out as the biggest D-bag in Bachelor/Bachelorette history.
I only watched the season debut of The Bachelorette, but I’m still glad Wes is gone. It was clear from the second he started singing that stupid song that he was a jerk. Ugh.
Is Jake still around?
I wish Jake was still around. Sigh.
Oh jeez, 14 year old me would have been completely effed from that video.
And, um, let’s just say there’s a reason I flip the station when The Notebook comes on. For The Boy’s safety I can not watch such grand gestures of fictionalized romance.
Taylor Swift is probably the cutest thing EVER, right up there with puppies & kittens. That was the first time I saw that video and I think she hit on every truth of the teenage years. Sadly, and yes I was the girl in marching band playing the clarinet.
Okay, so I’ve never heard of Taylor Swift until today, but I *may* have just teared up watching that video. (But it was not like every time I watch The Notebook – that’s BAWLING).
Also, I heart Matchbox 20, and have done ever since I got their CD for my 12th bday. I didn’t realise I should be ashamed of that…
And I guess it’s not helping saying that there’s a cry fest right now at my house while a bunch of us are watching memorial live. wooh.
Pass me the tequila.
I LOVE Taylor Swift. I totally want to be her BFF older sister that she completely adores…
taylor swift = love.
and the bachelorette = my television is lucky i don’t own a rifle, because i completely would have shot wes last night.
that was the cutest video ever! i love taylor swift!
I love Taylor Swift too! I saw her in Portland and she was amazing! You’ll have a great time!
Taylor Swift, Carrie Underwood, Kelly Clarkson. I’d see any of them in concert. Also? Justin Timberlake.
I was irrationally annoyed that I couldn’t fast forward the live stream of the MJ memorial service. Too much talkey-talkey.
Wes is a douchey trainwreck. Austin (and that poor Laurel woman) can have him.
oh have fun at taylor’s concert, i sort of love her too. and it’s nothing to be ashamed of
Now I wanna hear what your friend’s WYRs were…
I would love to go to a Taylor Swift concert! I used to care about my musical tastes, now I’m boardering on having no shame whatsoever.
Oh, I had those SAME glasses at 14 (and those relationship expectations, but I never got that video ending in high school!).
And I’m pretty sure there’s nothing better than being a 28 year old teeny bopper!
Rob Thomas is a sexy, sexy man. No one else understands my feelings for him but I listen to Smooth (by him and Santana) in the shower almost everyday. It’s like my daily ritual.
Taylor Swift and Rob Thomas together in the same post? I could hug you. That girl is adorable times 10 billion! I love her. And Mr. Rob Thomas, well what can I say?? Shaggy hair cut or not, I love him to the end of the world. I got to meet him last week actually he was doing a meet & greet in NYC and I went. I won’t get into the rambling that ensued that evening, but I can tell you he is just as much of a sweetheart as you could imagine. And WES – dear God, I’m so glad he’s gone. And MJ, I know the guy was all “I’m the king of pop” and everything but if I have to see another “breaking news” story about him & his poor kids, I’m gonna poke my eyeball out & umm…that would be kinda gross.
Fact…I spent many a college evening listening to “If You’re Gone” over and over and over again, placing whichever crush I had at the moment into that little achy place I got in my heart when I listened to it. Never be ashamed of your love of the Rob Thomas.
Oh I will take every WYR question you can throw at me!
I LOVE Taylor…I wish I was going to see her in concert! And I totally agree with others about Wes, what a d-bag.
I just saw Taylor in Concert last night and it was AWESOME! And I’m 25, so you’re not alone.
So I totally went to a MB20 concert back then, and I’d do it again this year if I had the chance!
