7 vs. 27 August 19, 2008

Posted by brandy in AHHHHHHHHHHH!, MY BIRTHDAY, and now you might know everything, beauty can get ugly, confession of the day, family, find the dorkiest sentence in this, happiness, if you're shallow and you know it clap your hands!, sigh. i've made a tag for THE HILLS., this makes me sound dumber than i am.
trackback

I’m walking the fine line between being 27 years old and feeling like I’m 7 years old.

It’s my 27th birthday on Friday and it’s circled on my calendar= 27 years old

- with pink crayon= 7 years old

I’m finding it hard to get excited for my birthday this year= 27 years old

- but I keep telling people about it= 7 years old

I’ve asked for an old school pink bike, complete with basket = 7 years old

I’m thinking of getting warranty for it= 27 years old

I jumped up and down when I overheard my mom ordering it= 7 years old

I’ve already (partially) celebrated my birthday last week with sangria and gambling= 27 years old

- and sack races= 7 years old

I think I want to celebrate with a sleepover= 7 years old

- with someone completely inappropriate= 27 years old

I got a birthday card in the mail from my grandfather= 27 years old

- that had stickers on it= 7 years old

I don’t care about birthday cake= 27 years old

- but I still need to want to blow out candles = 7 years old

This might be the only birthday post I write this year if the tides of 27 don’t change. Which is a HUGE difference from last year in which I wrote out my birthday wish list almost a month before my birthday and then had roughly 4.7 billion posts leading up and then later describing my birthday fun. Perhaps I swallowed a boring pill this year?

Are you all “hooray it’s my birthday, let’s play white Russian roulette!!” person or a “let’s draw the curtains and spend the day watching *THE HILLS instead of partying” person?

* Speaking of The Hills (yes, I have to go there), Lo and Spencer should just get married. Then they can be miserable together and Spencer can spend his days attempting to grow facial hair and Lo can continue to practice disguising her meanness in that annoying baby talk complete with doe-eyed stare. The sickening thought is I would probably watch that show. And eat it up like candy. Candy laced with crack. Sigh. I have a reality television problem.

THANK YOU, I am glad I am not the only one that thinks Lo and Spencer should be together. They have to be the Soul Mates from Hell. Have to be.

Happy Early Birthday! I hope you have a great one, whatever you do!

2. Heather - August 19, 2008

Here’s hoping your birthday is absolutely awesome and can spin you right out of the lackluster feelings about it all! I am not much of a partier honestly… for my 21st birthday I had a sleepover with my little sisters. So yeah…. After that, it’s pretty much been a dinner out with the husband and a small gift from my family.

3. Essentially Me - August 19, 2008

I’m so not into my birthday I haven’t even posted about it …

Actually looking back, the day of my birthday I wrote about being a ninja. So there you go. In any case, I hope you celebrate it with a bang! And not the inappropriate kind if you know what I mean. But then again …

4. poodlegoose - August 19, 2008

I’ve never really gotten into the birthday “thing,” though, I’m not really sure why. I’m super excited you’re getting a bike for yours. I’m really super jealous right now ;)

5. mentalthreesixty - August 19, 2008

What?! You don’t care about a birthday cake?!? I care about cake so much I baked my own birthday cake this year just in case no one gave me one this year… yeah… it’s that serious!

Hope you haz fun on ur birfday!!!

6. brookem - August 19, 2008

um, well im the “hooray it’s my bday, let’s drink adult bevvies and watch the hills at the same time” kind of girl. you know, mix it up a bit!

you’re bday present is in a box on my counter. there’s one thing i need to add to it. so it will be just a spec late, but the singing message will be right on time. dont you worry.

now we can email about the hills since i wasnt sure if you saw. thank goodness. yes, lo and spencer (spenlo?) would make a good pair.

7. Grace - August 19, 2008

omg. I LOVE BIRTHDAYS!!!! In my house we always made a pretty big deal out of them. My mom still makes treats for her own birthday to bring to her bridge club and book club mtgs. She’ll talk about it excitedly for daysupondays beforehand. I plan to do that every year too. She just turned 49 and acts like a 7 yr old. (Granted she teaches kindergarten…)

I think you should hardcore celebrate with friends & family, wine, bubbles & a cake shaped like a giraffe. Then put your favorite doll in the basket & take that bike for a spin around the block. :)

8. Dutchess of Kickball - August 19, 2008

Birthdays are to be celebrated with gads of gumption, that is all there is to it.

9. Erin - August 19, 2008

I definitely bought myself a pink bike with a basket not too long ago and I love it! It’s probably one of my favorite things I own -along with my puppy and red Chloe bag :)

I missed the premier last night! I had planned on being moved in by yesterday so I could watch it in my new place, but the weather had different ideas and postponed my move until exactly the time of The Hills. Oh well… at least MTV isn’t stingy with the reruns!

10. notsojenny - August 19, 2008

the hills is so deliciously addictive! i love that Lo was even being a bitch to the audience and her employer by going on vacation instead of the launch party. hahaha. that crazy Lo.

11. Kari - August 19, 2008

I’m definitely a party for your birthday girl, but I inevitably get disappointed when people don’t show up :( So maybe I need to become a stay at home and watch a movie person. (I don’t watch the Hills, never have, never will).

12. Renee - August 19, 2008

This is a hilarious post. Personally, I am one of both extremes for birthdays. Either I’ll go balls to the walls and throw a huge party and dominate the beer pong table, or I’ll sit at home and watch the Food Network with Ben and Jerry.

13. Ben - August 19, 2008

Whether I go out or stay in, I still end up drunk as a skunk. I prefer the first day of a new year to be slightly hazy and overridden with fastfood.

14. Kevin Spencer - August 19, 2008

This post absolutely cracked me up. Sack races for the win, I feel.

15. The Holywriter - August 19, 2008

I just had the big 26. I’m def not looking forward to 27.

16. Hope - August 19, 2008

Oh I heart you so much for this post. It made me smile because I think we should all celebrate birthdays in part like we did when we were children!

17. BloodRedRoses - August 19, 2008

I love, LOVE the fact that you are getting a bike complete with basket. AMAZING.

I have to say that I love birthdays and I hope the trend will continue as I get older!

18. rye - August 19, 2008

Haha, this is EXACTLY how I am when my birthday comes around! Happy early B-day :)

19. Liz - August 19, 2008

This is so funny. I feel the same way about my birthday.

Also, I have a problem with lo and spencer. I also feel ridiculous about the fact that I watch the show and actually blogged about it.

20. Laurie | Your Ill-fitting Overcoat - August 19, 2008

I cry basically every single year on my birthday. I mean, I cry the other 364 days, too, but birthdays are extra special hard for me. I’ve historically put WAY too much importance on them so that I’m always sad and disappointed. I’ve learned to remedy this by not planning anything big and not telling most people. It seems to work…

21. anne - August 19, 2008

Are there ribbons hanging from the handlebars too? Also as you know Magoo got a bike for his 31st birthday!

22. longredcape - August 19, 2008

IRTILIIHNTA

heheheehe :)

23. voiceinmyhead - August 19, 2008

1. i hope you have a fantastic b-day!!

2. lo with her big eyes and blank expressions is just as annoying as spencer and his flesh colored beard

3. can we talk about what is goin on with heidi’s face?? the combination of her poofy lips and too straight nose freak me out…or
maybe it’s the the big chiclet teeth??

24. Kimmers - August 19, 2008

1. I’m so glad I’m not the only one who is anti Lo. That girl just annoys the shit out of me every second she is onscreen… I want to smack the vacant expression right off her face. She is SUCH a raging to Audrina and Lauren is just full of excuses for her. Ugh.

2. Lo + Spencer = genius!

3. voiceinmyhead – WHAT THE HELL has Heidi done to her face??? HATE the nose job, HATE the lip plumping, HATE the huge fake teeth. Is it just me or has her face gotten really long and skinny too? Like, unattractively so? Also, something is off about her eyes lately… they look WAY too big for her face. I can’t figure out what it is exactly… is it just the fake lashes, or what? I was watching the 10 Best Moments of the Hills and every time there was a clip of the old Heidi, I was struck by what a pretty girl she used to be, and how generic she looks now.

4. That was a lot of Heidi bashing. Calmng down, now.

5. HAPPY BIRTHDAY!! I hope it turns out fantastic. :)

25. HippieChyck - August 19, 2008

27 sounds shockingly grown up to me too. and i’m 8 years older than you. perhaps this year your wish is simply more focused than it was last year? or maybe you’ve already accumulated all of the best shoes.

bonne anniversaire!

26. libby - August 19, 2008

where on earth did you find a pink bike w/basket fit for a 27 year old?

27. alexa - August 19, 2008

you are so right about lo and spencer. seriously can they whine anymore?!? barf.

also, in regard to the birthday i get ultra excited every other birthday. its weird, i know. even numbers im happy and have a so so bday. odd numbers ROCK!

28. Toni-Marie - August 19, 2008

I’ve never been into birthdays, since I was about 7. My seventh was the last time I celebrated. I don’t know, these days I rarely even tell people it’s my birthday, last year I told everyone including my housemates, the day after. I don’t know why I just don’t like celebrating.

29. Jessica - August 19, 2008

I think we need to address Doug, our new love interest for LC who will inevitably stab her in the back. Stephen needs to come back and marry her. Seriously. But Doug is just so hot that I think I can work past that and just stare at him and smile.

30. Ashley - August 19, 2008

There is nothing wrong with having a 7 year old inside of you. Makes your midtwenties soooo much more fun. And better to deal with when you can just throw a hissy fit and pout in the corner.

Happy early birthday (I’m sure i’ll be wishing you this a few more times this week!!) I hope you get more excited as the week goes on (not only is it your birthday but its FRIDAY!!)

31. geekhiker - August 19, 2008

Some birthdays are up. Some birthdays are down. It’s the way it goes. Trust me, I’ve had a few more than you, I know what I’m talking about.

But whatever happens, I hope you have a wonderful birthday, kiddo. :)

32. Semichrmd - August 20, 2008

Ummm Sangria, what a way to celebrate! Happy early birthday!!
I am so there with you on the Spencer and Lo pairing (brookem – splenlo? genius)! And can I just say Justin Bobby + short hair=delish! I never thought I’d say that but I did. And I’m not loving Doug, there’s something about him, but yes – Stephan. Please come back.

33. Angela - August 20, 2008

I loved this post. That is all.

34. brandy - August 20, 2008

Semichmd- I’m with you on Stephen. I miss him. I miss his hair.

35. egan - August 20, 2008

Spending the day with someone inappropriate, that sounds just right for 27. That’s what those mid 20s are all about, I think. It seems a girl can never let go of her love for pink, I like that very much.

36. thatShortChick - August 20, 2008

um, how about audrina and her dead eyes and that awful voice. but that’s all the talk about the hills i can stomach.

your birthday? yay!! if you’re looking for a bike, try rei.com (i’m not sure if they ship to canada though) but they’re having a sale which is always cause for celebration.

37. Alexis - August 20, 2008

I love this.

You’re amazing.

:)

38. Kayleigh - August 21, 2008

As the Brits would say, this post was absolutely brilliant. Happy Bday btw. I’ve been slacking in blogworld as of late.

I’m so sick of hearing things about Spiedi moving out of LA, Speidi announcing yet again they’re getting married, etc. UGH.

I too used to have a reality tv problem. They I willingly eliminated cable tv from my package and viola! I’ve been living on 8 channels ever since. I didn’t think it was possible, but it was. And now I’m addicted to Netflix. Gotta love substituting one addiction for another.

39. K - August 22, 2008

Hillarious post and all so damn true. I act the same way.

Happy Birthday!
