What I’ve decided at 2:46 am April 24, 2008
Posted by brandy in I should be sleeping, because "guilt" is a dirty word, brookem is awesome!, famous people make for good gossip, hello universe? I love you, it makes sense to me, it's almost like a meme, lists, love or something like it, men, people i like, pirates, swimming in a sea of self pity, the Ex files, the devils worker bees, this is what happens when you listen to a sad song.trackback
1. I will never be that super cool girl who hears good news regarding an ex-boyfriend and responds by saying things like ‘Awesome!’ or “Good for him!”. I will be that bitter, hostile woman who thinks “him? why him? why doesn’t he just go fall in a manhole and save the world from himself?”. And then I will drink heavily. Or, if it’s a school night, I will wrestle my blankets and mentally re-organize my closet.
2. “Parent Trap” was Lindsay Lohan’s best movie performance. And anyone who disagrees should be prepared to duel. To the death.
3. Sometimes I get depressed with the idea that I would be just a little bit better at everything if I just had a little bit more time.
4. I’m teaching a unit about Pirates in June. Not because I’ve found amazing resources on pirates, but because I think pirates are fun. And my theory involving grade two education goes something like this:
1 part educational content + 2 parts FUN = unbridled joy.
And quite possibly a scavenger hunt. And one of my professional goals is to have as many scavenger hunts as possible.
5. The world can be divided into Sawyer people or Jack people. I am a Jack person. Because when I see Jack, I feel like I swallowed a rainbow. And because Jack washes his hair.
# 1 - I’ve been there, done that. And “that super cool girl who hears good news regarding an ex-boyfriend and responds by saying things like ‘Awesome!’ or “Good for him!”.” - she’s totally faking it (TWSS).
# 3 - I do this ALL the time (10 mins ago even!)
# 4 - Why did I never have a teacher like you in Grade 2 (or any for that matter)
that really was her best movie. i totally agree.
and i think professors should have scavenger hunts
1. I never get along with my exes. Freakin’ A.
2. I get Lindsey Lohan and Mandy Moore confused.
3. You should try SuperMemo.
4. I could never get away with that.
5. I have no idea what this means.
1. I cringe when I think of ex-boyfriends so I usually try to pretend
that I don’t know them. “Who’s getting married??
2. I liked Mean Girls. Sorry, Parent Trap will always be Hayley Mills.
3. Sometimes when I have more time I feel depressed because I
think I could be doing more.
4. I love Pirates! Make sure you mention all the female pirates.
They were some fierce (and not in the Tyra Banks way) women.
5. Jack. Jack. Jack.
You are extremely productive in the wee hours of the morning. You might want to teach night school or something…
Jack ALL THE WAY, haha
I can’t totally relate to number 1. I am the bitter ex-girlfriend too even if things are going great for me. And I definitely agree about The Parent Trap being Lindsey Lohan’s best movie.
But Sawyer is oober fine! I would have to say I’m a Jack person too though… I wash my hair
And on the note of the whole ex-boyfriend thing… I’m not exactly bitter because I hardly ever hear anything about him… but I do get intense joy from going into the restaurant where he works with my current boyfriend! LOL… mostly because my current b/f is very affectionate and like to hold my hand and what not in public… One time.. I caught the ex starring with this sad look on his face.
Loved Lindsay’s Parent Trap. Everytime it’s on Family Channel I can’t help but watch it. And I love Lindsay!
And I am an unabashed Jackgirl. Which is why you need to watch at least the preview for next week so we can crouch in a corner in a worrisome state for our dear hero.
i absolutely LOVE parent trap and have it on DVD (and may or may not watch it all the time, sssh)
also, scavenger hunts were always my favorite things to do when i was little. i think it’ll be a hit!
I am just a Sawyer person, because when I see him I want to do very dirty things to him.
But I completely agree with you on the ex-boyfriend thing. Well, the ones that threw me away at least.
What about Mean Girls?!?!
I think I am a Jack person too, even though I barely watch the show. Sawyer seems smelly.
Love the pirate idea. In fact, I kinda want to come and go on the scavenger hunt.
This is one of those posts that just reiterates how much I adore you. I’m not going to duel you, but I’m wondering if you considered Mean Girls?
Also, if you could mentally reorganize my closet, and then maybe physically reorganize it as well? Also, if you could duplicate everything in my wardrobe (clothes, shoes, and accessories) and then get me two of every product I like to use, so I can have my entire life at my house AND at M’s house, that would be like, totally awesome. Cause nobody likes having to drive back to the hizzie to get tampons and a new razor blade when American Idol is on, ya know?
I don’t know about all this Jack and Sawyer business, but I’ma snag Josh Lyman while you’re busy thinking about it and take him away to my country house and make love to him in a meadow. Oh, wait. I don’t have a country house.
f*ck.
happy friday anyway, butter. hope your weekend is great.
Ah! I love the Parent Trap, but I’m also with a couple ahead of me… I also really liked Mean Girls (guilty pleasure). I do think that the Parent Trap was her best performance though. Oh, dear… not going into the logistics of what made Lindsay a better actress in any given movie…
Sorry about the ex crap. I’m kinda like that, too, but mostly because my exes are jerks. Hope you have a great weekend, you hard working teacher, you.
1. Neither will I. I’m also the girl who hears about an arch-nemesis (regardless of their gender) and think the same things.
2. I have to agree. She hadn’t reached skankdome yet. I mean, seriously, have you seen “I know who killed me?” Don’t watch it…trust me on that one.
3. I get depressed because I’d be better at things if I actually applied myself. Because I have the time…I just don’t have the desire.
4. Um…can I go back to the 2nd grade for this unit? I want to be in your class.
5. I have to agree with you on this one, too. Unfortunately, I’m not a Jack person. I’m not really a Sawyer person, either (more of a Desmond girl), but I prefer him over Jack. You know…I think I figured it out though…its not that I necessarily hate Jack…I think I hate Matthew Fox. I just watched a movie with him in it (We Are Marshall) and he annoyed me in that movie, too. But its all good - I’m glad you are a Jack girl. someone has to be!
I am soooo with you on the Parent Trap thing. Although it’s a little depressing to watch it now and see how much she’s changed for the worse.
ps, scavenger hunts are like body shots for little kids. SO much fun and usually good for learning a lesson or two.
Ooh you totally would have been my favorite teacher ever. Scavenger Hunts? Count me in!
you have to be one mature classy lady to congratulate the BF on finding happiness. I’m immature and totally classless, so I feel you on that one.
The parent trap?? I. LOVE. THAT. MOVIE.
Better than the original and for the longest time I did think they had actual twins play the part of the girls.
Jack may wash his hair, but Sawyer pulls off a uber fabulous scruffy look and is just well, hot shit. Not that Jack isn’t hot….just not AS hot.
I’m actually friends with most of my exes…the ones I’m not friends with though I most definitely do not wish well. May they rot in hell. Ahem. That was harsh. May they *not like* hell.
Dude. Sawyer. All the way.
Also I caught The Parent Trap a few weeks ago and thought the same thing, until I caught Mean Girls this weekend on tv. I love Mean Girls.
I love that version of the Parent Trap. I like the original better, but still. Little Lo could pull off a British accent.
I don’t know, Sawyer was pretty heroic last night.
But I agree about Lindsay.
can i have both jack AND sawyer???
Yeah, the thing is, in theory, I’d be A Jack Girl. And, had they shown a hot and steamy sex scene with Jack and Kate (ugh, maybe not Kate?… Jack and Claire (but that wouldn’t work either, aren’t they like, related?)… Jack and … well, someone else) then I maybe would have a different opinion. Yeah, I know what you mean about the hair. But, being a big hair girl, I like that Sawyer has MORE of it (too much yes, but more to play with).. and, I don’t know. I guess I’m just on the Sawyer side of things.
For now.
Oh! I guess there was more to this post than just LOST, huh?
I like your other points, esp. #1- I’ll never be that girl either. Blah.
The Pirate Hunt should be fun! Agreed, wholeheartedly, about L.Lohan.
1 - who could ever be that girl? not me, not must of us.
2 - For real? Even better than Mean Girls? I mean seriously that movie was a classic.
3 - I hear ya girlfriend! Time, like as in maybe 24 more hours in a day, that would be a dream come true. I always tell my husband I either need more time or a wife, to actually get stuff done.
4 - Man, I wish I had teachers like you when I was in school. Pirates & scavenger hunts = you rock!
5 - I’m totally with you. I am a Jack person (even though I stopped watching after last season.) I just don’t get the Sawyer appeal. Ack.
#2 should be known by everyone!
I want to be in your class for the Pirate unit. You rock!
#2 should be agreed upon by everyone. Period.
I want to be in your class for the Pirate unit. You rock!
I’m with you on #1. Never ever will be I be super happy for an ex. Especially if he’s a douche.
I’m a Jack person ::swoon::
1. thank you for saying this on this day at this time. and thank you to every other girl who was like ‘RIGHT ON!’ because…yeah. i want to be all happy go lucky but i think it takes me years to get there.
2. of course it is.
3. i am frustrated because i think that i could be better if i was not lazy. but maybe the lazy will just scourge out of me one day. or not.
4. uhm, i am pretty sure that teaching philosophy is why your students love you. i definitely believe that scavenger hunts are ESSENTIAL to any pirate unit.
5. jack makes me feel safe. sawyer makes me feel dangerous. the fact that i have to debate it makes me wonder about myself.
happy friday. you survived!
I think I have to rent all seasons of Lost as I have never watched even a single episode and am completely clueless when it comes to all of these Jack and Sawyer references …
and am so with you on point number 1 - shouldn’t they have all lost the will to live having lost/ditched me??
I am still undecided about the Jack/Sawyer thing. In the beginning I hated Sawyer, but he has definitely grown on me. Plus, Jack is sometimes too good, too righteous. It worries me slightly that I can be so easily turned by a bad boy, if he does a few nice things.
After last night’s episode, there is some speculation around my office that Sawyer and Hurley are gay. I’ve been a Jack girl all the way back to when he was Charlie on POF.
When you teach the pirate lesson, I think you should rock an eyepatch. (Like Mikhail.)
jack. jack. jack. Although, my opinion is being informed by a rapid catch up via netflix.
Here, here! parent trap!
I love pirates and I’m going to a pirate themed party in July. The person throwing it is so excited that I’ve already known about it a month.
I wish someone had taught me about pirates in school. Maybe then I wouldn’t have jumped on that ship that went off the edge of the world just because they said they had candy for me.
You’re the coolest teacher- pirates and scavenger hunts!
I am a Sawyer person. I hope we can still be friends.
I like that you prefer Jack because he washes his hair. Everyone else seems to dismiss him, but I think he’s very cute.
#1 I think that people who can just move on are complete freaks actually!
#2 of course.
#3 me too. Though I would probably squander that time doing something meaningless, thus leaving me where I started…
#4 cool! As far at primary school themes go, I have a strong belief that it’s not really what you teach but how you teach it that counts - in the early years.
#5 well, I don’t know either well enough to comment, since I loathe lost but I DO think there are Elvis people or Beatles people - and while I’ve said that I’m going state categorically that I am both. I know, I know not even my logic makes sense to me.
I’m a “Mean Girls” fan, myself…
And I also am not graceful about hearing news re. exes.
In conclusion, Pirates are AWESOME.
Pirates and scavenger hunts? You are the best teacher EVER.
mean girls is a close second, i have to say. but parent trap was good! also: i wish i was in your class.
That was Lindsay best movie for sure! But I do think she was pretty good in Mean Girls. And I don’t watch Lost really but I always wondered why Jack seemed so much cleaner than the other island dwellers.
Like there would ever be a question about Lohan’s best performance?
Only one even rates (crap, what about Herbie?).
Jack fan here…
WTF is goinfg on with Audrina and heidi? Oh!!! Have you heard of Heidiwood? shitty heidi clothes at discount prices!!!
i love you!!!!!
aRbit= Excellent TWSS!! I’m impressed.
glamorous152- I think if my roman and gothic art history professor would have had ONE scavenger hunt, I would have liked that class 100% more.
eyeingtenure- #5? Never change that about you.
Dingo- Mean Girls! I agree it’s good but I’m thinking the accent puts her Parent Trap debut first!
Sturdy Girl- I know. Perhaps I should see about a night school job.
Deutlich- Yes! He’s just so… wonderful.
Are you willing to change- Lindsay was just so good in that flick. I definitely liked her more when she was young and not so… crazy. And did I just say ‘flick’? Do people still say that?
Keri- That definitely sounds like sweet revenge!
Tiff- Ohhh now I have to go look at it. Poor Jack. I just want something good to happen to him.
Michelle and the City- You own it on DVD? Okay, now I think I need to go buy it…
DUtchess of Kickball- See, I get that. I get the bad boy appeal of Sawyer. He would be more fun to drink a bottle of tequila with… but Jack? Oh Jack. He’s the guy who you can take to meet your family. And the guy who buys you flowers. He’s like… every 20something male good guy character featured on any CW show. But with 5 o’clock shadow.
AM- Mean Girls is fantastic, I completely agree. But I watch it mostly for my fellow Canadian Rachel McAdams. Mean Girls is number 2 on my list though. Can we still be friends?
cdp= Oh you make me laugh. As for Josh Lyman… just reading the idea of him cheating on me with someone else sort of made my heart seize up. Isn’t there anyone else you want to frolic in a meadow with??
poodlegoose- Aww thanks! I hope you have a great weekend too!!
Sicilian Mama- I remember you being a Desmond girl. I do like his accent. The way he says “Penny” makes me feel all shivery and quivery. As for Matthew Fox, he annoys me sometimes too. Both in “We are Marshall” and “Vantage Point”. He should just stick to playing Jack. Forever.
cdp- That might be the funniest comment ever left.
littlespoon- Oh, I just tell you the good parts. Sometimes when the kids are bad we put our heads down on our desks. (And I do this too. It helps prevent a Britney style meltdown complete with a shaved head).
notperfectdotcom- Well at least we can be immature and classless together.
Ashley- “May they not like hell”. I like that.
Jamie- I love mean girls too but the accent? The adorableness that never crosses the line to annoying smug child actor posing on the big screen?? That girl in Parent Trap was a gem! A gem I tell you!
Lacey Bean- Exactly. The accent, was gold.
POTU- I didn’t watch it, so I can’t talk about Sawyer heroics, but I do believe he’s capable of them.
Anne- No you may not. It’s for your own good really. I think you would explode. One woman cannot handle both of them, it’s like trying to harness the sun, or nail a picture to an ocean wave. It’s impossible.
brookem- Agreed- Jack needs a scene. With someone who is NOT KATE (who- in my humble opinion.. IS THE MOST ANNOYING CHARACTER EVER CREATED. EVER). Perhaps then I would be more of a Sawyer girl. Or would at least not have so much rage.
Semichrmd- I’m working on getting back into the show. I want to revive my love for it, instead of having it go to the tv wasteland that currently holds ‘grey’s anatomy’.
justrun- Thanks lady!!
freeandflawed- Can I just say I love anyone who calls someone a douche?
drbolte- #5- Well said. Seriously. And the fact that I’m thinking about the comment that has made you wonder about yourself know is forcing me to really think about myself.
finn644- I like the idea that everything an ex boyfriend does now is in a desperate attempt to win me back, or is just a distraction from his broken heart. Is such thinking unhealthy?
teabelly- I get you about the righteous aspect. I do find that sometimes Jack is just TOO GOOD. Thank God he has tattoos.
Mel Heth- Oh eyepatch for sure! And I think I need a stuffed parrot for my shoulder. Also, Sawyer gay? Hmm. I need time to ponder that one.
Clearlykels- Pirate party! I want to come!!
Rebekah- Well, I plan on teaching children about pirates for that very reason. Actually, that’s a lie. I just want to have stuffed parrot in the classroom.
sizzlesays- Definitely still friends! In fact, the more people who like Sawyer means less women I have to fight to get Jack. See what’s I’m saying>
egan- I bet he even speaks French.
Mez- I think the same thing about Elvis and the Beatles. I also think there are also Matt people or Ben people. I prefer the Beatles and Ben. And Jack obviously. Wow. Did I just talk about the Beatles in the same sentence as Ben Affleck? That seems disrespectful.
Trigger- I love that you threw in a ‘in conclusion’…
Pirates are awesome aren’t they? I think that should go on a t-shirt.
larissalmarks- That’s what my kids say after I give them free ice cream and new bicycles.
libby- Aww thanks! And yes, I agree- Mean Girls is definitely a close second.
1218blog- I think it’s because he’s the leader and has the weight of everyone on his shoulders and if he’s going to be in charge HE MUST BE CLEAN! No one will respect a dirty leader.
evans- Dude. I just read an article where Lauren defends her clothing costs saying that ‘though the clothes are plain, the material is high quality’. $200 for a tanktop? Is it made of phoenix feathers? Also, Audrina is getting shit on. Seriously. That Lo is causing all sorts of trouble I think.
t- Ahh, a drunk message from you is always a highlight of my day. I tried calling you, but my phone has been wonky lately…
I really wish I would have had you as a teacher, scavenger hunts make the world a better place.
I would like to learn to be that mystical #1 girl, but I don’t think it’s really in the cards for me. I do say “oh good for him, that’s great!” out loud…but in my head I have a much more colorful and…slightly less kind version of the commentary…
1: Now we know why I never returned my Ex’s birthday call.
2: She wasn’t bad in Prairie Home Companion, either
3: I know that one, and need it on a t-shirt
4: I wanna be in your class!
5: I, uh, don’t think I fall into either, really…
Chelsea- I do think you are right about scavenger hunts. So much damn fun.
Maggie- I’m glad to know I’m not alone!
geekhiker- I never saw Prairie Home Companion. I may have to rent it now…
now i love lohan in parent trap but her mean girls performance is way up there as well! ha.
also, can i take your priates class too? aRRRRRRRRRRRgh
I’m a Jack person too - likely due to the hair washing also.
And Pirates - who doesn’t like pirates?
My x-boyfriend just got engaged, and like a sadist I stalk his fiance on facebook and looked at all their engagement photos…and then i threw up. ugh, thanks for the vent.
what happens to people who don’t watch lost? where do i default?
xox
1 - me too!
5 - I think deep down I am a Jack person, but Sawyer gets all the best lines and turns my head. “Well wipe the stars from your eyes sweetheart,” being my quote of the day from the episode I drooled over this morning,
PS Also, getting a thing for Sayid. I think I may be watching it too much! xx
1. i like to think horrible thoughts, but i don’t REALLY wish it. but thinking it gets me through perfectly fine
5. i really have no idea what you’re referring to when you talk about JACK and SAWYER. i just know that i love me some JACK and coke.
