What?!?!! Part II March 27, 2008

Posted by brandy in blogs, karma is going to get you, proof i attract crazy, stuff like this makes me want to quit, thanks for the heads up Ally!, what the hell.
trackback

Let’s play a game called “See how many posts this person stole from me”. I stopped counting after the first two pages because I actually started to cry. Because not understanding things usually leads to tears. Or drinking. And my liver and I are currently not talking after Vegas.

Filed under “things I do not understand” people who steal posts about Oprah’s big give. Or being called the c-word. Or birthday wish lists. Seriously. Who steals someone’s birthday wish list?

For example: Here is what I said about my birthday wish list. Here is what she said. Here is what I said about “Here I Am“, and here is what she said. what I said about the C word, here is what she said

This one might actually be my favourite. I wrote 3 sentences about what I was addicted to, and look what she wrote.

I’ve linked to her (against my better judgment) because I wanted others to see how psycho some people are. I’ll delete the link later though- such a person doesn’t deserve a long-term audience.

This is the second time this has happened to me (that I know of). What do you all do when it happens to you? Confront the person? Ignore them? Make a voodoo doll of them and wish bad luck?

* How I Found Out… (I’m working on responding, and getting reader updated AND emailing everyone who has left me such nice emails but I thought I would add this in since so many people are curious)

Ally was scrolling through CDP’s blog and clicked the link near the bottom (under “check it out”) where CDP has already called this person on copying HER stuff. Ally read one of the posts and knew that she had read it before and let me know. I suppose that might be all you can do in these situations- tell someone if you think they’ve been copied. Thanks Ally!

It seems pretty ridiculous to steal someone else’s posts. Is she stealing them word for word or the idea of them? I don’t get it. What could she possibly gain from stealing your posts?

I don’t know if I’d confront her. To be honest, I don’t think it would do much good. It might just start drama. At the same time, I’d be all like “Wtf, get your own damn posts bitch!”

I’m not much help am I? I’m sorry!

2. littlespoon - March 27, 2008

Oh wow. That’s shocking. And very odd. Shall we boycott? :)

3. Zosia - March 27, 2008

Confrontation is probably not necessary – she obviously reads your blog, so now she knows she’s been rumbled!
It seems a bit sad/mean/stupid that she didn’t just reproduce it and mention you, or provide a link – what’s wrong with that?
She fails blogging class with 0/100 for plagiarism

4. Elisabeth - March 27, 2008

It’s Like I’m…mmmagic…Accept no substitutions, rip offs, imitators.

5. Maggie - March 27, 2008

Oh my goodness – what is wrong with some people?! I don’t know what I would do if I were you, mostly because I am a non-confrontational wuss. But I would be really mad! And you are much braver than I, so I’m quite sure that you will have a better solution than just being mad about it.

6. k - March 27, 2008

wow – i just can’t believe someone would copy word for word. It is flattery when someone copies your post ideas (with credit, of course) but just down right creepy when someone copies you word for word! wonder why she wasn’t addicted to moose too?? :)

as for what to do… want me to go beat her up?

7. sizzlesays - March 27, 2008

How lame! I can’t believe anyone would do that. Well, no. I CAN believe it (as I have had my personal ad stolen line for line before).

I would email the person directly explaining how upsetting it is. Hopefully she’s just dumb and not mean.

If that doesn’t work, we (your posse) can kick her blogging asssssssssssss.

8. Zosia - March 27, 2008

Well, whatever you do, don’t take it personally – she has done it to other people as well. Here is a fun game anyone can play – try the following in quotation marks on google blogs and see what you get:

“rampant narcissist who loves taking high-angle pictures”

“red wine sitting on the counter and white”

Do you think we should let these other bloggers know?
On a positive note, I have just found 2 new blogs that look worth reading!

9. kp! - March 27, 2008

For all it’s worth, please know you have a loyal group of readers… and for anyone who checked out Little-Miss-Plagiarist’s blog, I can guarantee that you won’t be losing of us to her. She clearly steals your ideas because she’s nowhere near as good of a writer as you are. (Oh, and here’s hopin’ that she gets a really good dose of cheaty-blogging-karma sometime soon…)

10. poodlegoose - March 27, 2008

Wait… what? How does that even happen? How can someone come to a blog and think: you know, I think I’ll copy this (on my public blog) and no one will ever find out?

Well, I guess you can be flattered that what you’re writing about is steal-worthy :) How’d you find hers?

11. Princess of the Universe - March 27, 2008

How did you find out?
I clicked on a couple of the posts and she had 0 comments- clearly she wants to be cool and popular like you!

12. Essentially Me - March 27, 2008

Call them out .. just like you did.

13. Essentially Me - March 27, 2008

Oh and how did you come across her?? Did someone tell you she was taking your posts or was it a coincidence that you found out?

14. Essentially Me - March 27, 2008

Ok I know this is comment number three but I just got back from her site and what the fuck indeed??? I’m wondering if any of her posts are legit because most of them I’ve read from different sites (and at least 3 were from here). Seriously, who does that???

15. geekhiker - March 27, 2008

*shakes head* That’s just sad. Glad to know I’m reading the original.

16. The Lisa Show - March 27, 2008

Holy crap. That was weird reading. It’s like she stole your life and passed it off as hers. E-mail her. If that doesn’t work, just say the word. I’m sure your hundreds (thousands?) of daily readers can help.

17. nic - March 27, 2008

Well, I gotta say, I just left the nastiest comment. She won’t post it, but she’ll read it. I’d say her actions are pretty cheap and tacky…almost as much as that picture of her on her blog.

I’m so going to hell.

18. poodlegoose - March 27, 2008

Ok. Color me obssessed. Literally every post she has (I know that someone already said this, but like I said, I’m obssessed) is stolen from someone else. That is literally the craziest thing I’ve seen in a long time. I don’t understand the point.

July 26, 2007: http://burtsstache.blogspot.com/2007_07_01_archive.html

I knew I’d seen that somewhere before.

And sadly, just copy and paste some of “her words” into Google, and presto. Another one will pop up right with it.

19. Lisa H. - March 27, 2008

Dude. That is CREEPY.

At first, I thought if she was being inspired, that might not be so bad. Then you linked to the posts, and holy shit. That’s copying and pasting, and MAYBE changing a word here or there. CREEPY.

20. Jamie - March 27, 2008

I would totally email her. This is ridiculous. I’d flip out if someone did that to me.

21. r.xo - March 27, 2008

I made my blog invitation-only last week, for the same reason. I was upset to tears, as well :(

22. Princess Pointful - March 27, 2008

I would honesty email her, and the other people who’s posts she’s stolen, and let her know you’re onto her and how unacceptable that is.
And also go to http://creativecommons.org/licenses/ to get a copyright license for your blog, and tell that bee-otch you can sue her.
Seriously, I am upset for you.
Let us know what happens, ‘kay?

23. Princess Pointful - March 27, 2008

Holy Christ, she even ripped off Clink. Girl is a plagiarism machine… and has some seriously bad bloggie karma.

24. Michael C - March 27, 2008

I remember this the first time around. Now, I’m afraid to comment here in the chance that she might find her way to my blog…
I hope you’re angry at her Bran, because I sure am!!

25. abbersnail - March 27, 2008

That is just shameful. Seriously, I want you to just open the floodgates. Let US take care of it.

26. Larissa - March 27, 2008

Let’s all band together and open up a can of internet-whoop-ass on her. I’m not even sure what that means, but doesn’t it sound good?

27. Vanessa - March 28, 2008

She should not blog. She isn’t blogging really, she is doing something called copy and paste! Weak, un-original and outright plagerism. She’s actually lucky this is the blogisphere, otherwise she is likely to get slapped!

28. Hope - March 28, 2008

You know I remember this happened to This Fish a couple of times and the entire blogs were removed after she shamed them.

Plagiarism is one of my biggest pet peeves so I am thisclose to emailing her myself.

I don’t even get why someone would do that. I really don’t.

29. Elle - March 28, 2008

That’s…strange. Why on earth would someone do that? And why would someone freely do that and think it’s okay? Dumb cow.

I’d email her. Warn her, and if it doesn’t work?

Well, we’re all up for some bloggy revenge ;)

30. rachel - March 28, 2008

I have a food blog and people try to steal my recipes and pictures all the time. It’s disconcerting to go to a blog (esp. one where you know they know you read it) and see a picture of something that not only did I make in my own home but that I grew in my own garden with someone else’s recipe or thoughts underneath.

31. Dutchess of Kickball - March 28, 2008

Holy crap, I had no idea that people actually did this. How did you come across her site? I wonder if she is going to copy this post as well. Tee hee, that would actually be pretty funny.

32. Lisa - March 28, 2008

It sucks when someone poaches your words, but I’m confused as to who’s copying who? It seems some of “her” posts are dated before yours, so how could she have copied them?

33. kristin - March 28, 2008

my god, that’s amazing. amazing and WEIRD. wow.

34. Sparkel - March 28, 2008

That is just plain creepy…and weird…and creepy. I can’t believe someone would do that on a public blog. What a weirdo. I would definitely email her.

35. Michelle and the City - March 28, 2008

complete bullshit.

but i’m dying to know how you found out….

the blog almost seems fake to me, considering she’s stolen every single post. why even blog?

36. Valerie - March 28, 2008

Let’s kick her ass!

37. Sara Jane - March 28, 2008

In my blogging world this would be filed under “Who does that?”…seriously. I guess they say imitating is the best form of flattery. But why would anyone read the knock off?

38. Lisa - March 28, 2008

I’m pissed off. I’m seething. What pleasure could somebody get from post stealing?

Do you have creative commons on your blog? If not, GET IT NOW, SISTER. I would say you should contact her and threaten legal action (citing creative commons)

39. Danny - March 28, 2008
40. Lisa - March 28, 2008

@Lisa (comment #32)

It’s called changing the date… you can post in the past or future SO EASILY. And are you ACTUALLY accusing Brandy of taking that girl’s posts? Like, actually? Is that what your comment implied?

41. Sicilian Mama - March 28, 2008

Well…to try and make a completely inappropriate funny spin on this whole situation…if you look at her latest post…she totally stole it from Egan. Meaning he really did create a meme!!!

I’m sorry that this keeps happening to you, my friend. And from what I”ve seen, too, she’s stealing from a lot of different bloggers. What a bunch of psychos!

42. Lisa - March 28, 2008

Bran, I’m actually really upset. I feel vicariously violated. Email me and let me know if there is anything I can do to help you get this girl out.

(oh ps, I’m logging into my wordpress account, but #38, #40, and this one is me, lfar, from idontthinitsgoingtorain.com)

43. nicole d. - March 28, 2008

Some people really have a lot of nerve. If it wasn’t so creepy, it could be taken as a compliment… but nah…it’s way closer to Single White Female, the movie.

44. teabelly - March 28, 2008

I don’t think this has ever happened to me, but I don’t know what I’d do if it did. Why would someone do it? I don’t get it at all. I hope she feels stupid when she sees this and stops.

45. Abbie - March 28, 2008

just piggy backing on what everyone else has said, if you are living, I’m sure you have life experiences to report without having to plagiarize someone else’s. I can’t even begin to fathom the psyche of a person who would steal life stories of someone else. If you live a boring life, freggin make one up instead of stealing…geez! I hope you dropped her an email…I would love to hear her justification.

46. Nilsa S. - March 28, 2008

OMG – I’ve never heard of this. I mean, I steal ideas all the time, but but but … (1) I always give credit where it’s due and (2) I never steal word-for-word sections! That’s terrible. You should consider putting a copyright phrase on your blog … maybe legal ramifications would inspire that person to come up with their own ideas. Then again, I’ve NEVER had this problem (ah, the joys of being less popular), so I’m not sure what I would do to them.

47. Abbie - March 28, 2008

ps: Commenter #32… evidently other people’s posts besides brandy’s IDENTICAl to hers cannot possibly be plagiarizing from her…

C’mon now?

48. ablogofherown - March 28, 2008

Ugh. That’s creepy and sad and a whole bunch of other insanity.
On the positive side (if you can find one) imitation is the highest form of flattery. :/

It still sucks though.

49. Miss Pickle - March 28, 2008

Seriosuly? What is the point of copying your posts? Kind of defeats the purpose of her “blog”, doesn’t it?

I’d confront her…it would drive me nuts to just let it go.
Crazy chick!

50. Clearlykels - March 28, 2008

That sucks– I don’t know why someone would do that. I’m sorry.

51. tiff - March 28, 2008

WTF. I’m not a mean person but that was like the worst blog EVER. Completely pointless, and half of it plagarized. I would see if she has an email address and just ask her politely to stop ripping you off, and if she wanted to Single White Female you then you’re not interested kthxbai.

So so wierd.

52. Jess - March 28, 2008

WHAT? This is INSANE. Can you report her to Blogger? That can’t be allowed.

53. Just K - March 28, 2008

This is RIDICULOUS and PATHETIC. Imagine how many of her other blogs are stolen from other people who may or may not know. Isnt the purpose of a blog to share your individual creativity?

54. brookem - March 28, 2008

Wicked lame. Everyone has already said basically what I’m thinking. I just don’t get it. In a way it’s (a spec?) flattering, because she’s picking one of the best writers to copycat, but at the same time, it’s a huge deal and, really… it sucks.

55. Cheryl - March 28, 2008

OMG. This just makes me so mad. You are the third blogger I know who has had this happen. All I got to say is, I can think of another thing she could add to her list about why people might call her the C word.

56. Kat - March 28, 2008

I’m one of the other bloggers from whom this pathetic mess has been stealing content. Allow me to second what everyone else has said here, and then add the following:

WHAAAAT THE FUUUUUUUCK?!!!!!!!!

I’d love to hear what you plan to do about this. I have a couple ideas. Email me!

57. notsojenny - March 28, 2008

that’s crazy. i had no idea this even happened. but i agree with what some others said, she obviously reads your blog so you don’t need to “confront”. she already knows you’ve busted the doors wide open. hopefully she’ll just quietly stop… and if she doesn’t, then can you report her to wordpress or something like that??

58. olivia - March 28, 2008

eww.

59. legallyheidi - March 28, 2008

holy crap. thats creepy man. you should definitely call her out, not sure what it accomplishes but at least defend YOUR writing and tell her what she did is CRAZY and mayhaps make it known to some of the other bloggers she’s ripped off?

60. lfar - March 28, 2008

Ps, how did you find out?

61. Hilly - March 28, 2008

What is the point of blogging if you don’t write your own stuff? I mean, seriously…don’t we all write to get OUR OWN thoughts out there onto the page?

I’m voting for confronting her as well….send her an email and ask her what the hell she thinks she is doing.

I only had this happen to me once before but I immediately contacted the person…she never responded. So I would go through her posts and just leave a comment that was a link back to MY original post. Eventually I got email from her calling me overly dramatic. WTF???

62. creatingadiva - March 28, 2008

holy smokes. those posts are literally the SAME! that would just FREAK me out! WHAT dear lord is the point of blogging if you are going to rip off others ideas? I’d call her out on it, though she probably already knows since she stalks your blog! Oh I just found your blog and I HAD to comment…this is just ridiculous. who knew?!?

64. drbolte - March 28, 2008

so…this is what my thought process was as i first read your post.

“oh crap! i’ve stolen ideas…but i always say that i’ve stolen them…oh crap! i’m a terrible person!”

and then, i looked at the links.

and HOLY PLAGIARISM!

i felt better about myself. the best thing to do? confront. confront. confront. and, actually, i think that might have happened already with this post. good for you for calling her out. GOOD FOR YOU.

you’re too brilliant to take this crap. who copies a blog post word for word? good heavens. hugs. i’m sorry this happened. i guess, maybe, in a warped way, you could think of it as a compliment?

but, then, again…it is kind of a single white female mode of complimenting which is just…scary. so…nevermind.

65. Um...Yum! - March 28, 2008

Wow. What is wrong with people? You should definitely say something to that cunt. :o )

66. Franki - March 28, 2008

69. Semichrmd - March 28, 2008

Wow – I know someone else already said it but it’s totally single white female-ish. How creepy.

70. Kathryn - March 28, 2008

wow

just wow

oddly enough (IO mean who writes a blog to steal someone else’s thoughts??) this is not the first time I have seen this happen

my prediction? her blog will be gone by week’s end …

71. kirbyann - March 28, 2008

Thats REALLY kind of pathetic of her. I mean, why the hell would you have a blog if you have nothing to write about?

Also, The one post about “I never wanted to be” is such a brilliant idea. With approval I might do something similar one day…

I asked first :)

72. holly - March 28, 2008

Okay, that’s just creepy. It’s a word-for-word, shameless, blatant cut-and-paste. That’s horrible!

73. Jenni - March 28, 2008

In the words of Stephanie Tanner from Full House…

“HOW RUDE!”

74. Britni - March 28, 2008

Well that makes absolutely no sense to me… none of that has anything to do with her, or if it does… it’s still not her writing. I think it’s okay to take someone’s idea and run with it but to actually copy it word for word…

75. tori - March 28, 2008

WTF? What does a person get from copying someone else? Do they get to pretend they are cool or what? I don’t get it.

76. alexa - March 28, 2008

oh my gosh. that is just beyond ridiculous. i kinda wanna punch her.

77. em - March 28, 2008

How sad does someone’s life have to be for them to steal someone elses? Unreal…

78. Lisa H. - March 28, 2008

She said something about writing for SocialVibe. I don’t know what that is, and doubt I can look it up at work. Anyone else know, and know what kind of “writing” she is doing there?

79. Kayleigh - March 28, 2008

MAJOR case of the creepsters! What a loser.

80. cdp - March 28, 2008

Isn’t it so freaking psycho? At any rate, I found out because I was googling some lyrics that blogging barbie and I had been discussing, and found a post titled with those lyrics, clicked on it, and found that she had copied my story about a wonderful moment I shared with a very old friend and totally passed it off as something that had happened to her. She copied some of BB’s stuff as well. Just stupid.

I plan to delete the link too.

And goodness! I didn’t realize I was going to cause such a commotion! Although I feel pretty strongly about my writing, yours too, and anyone else’s, being copied. Not that it’s Hemingway or anything, but it’s still ours. And the post she copied verbatim from my blog was a piece I was actually sort of proud of, was one of my most popular posts ever, and was really quite personal.

Just makes you wonder how someone could be so unhappy with themselves that they would purposely steal and copy other people’s words to appear to be something they’re not. Pathetic, really.

Anyway, I didn’t know she’d done it to you as well until Ally told me. Sorry to be the bearer of bad tidings! Hopefully she will knock it off now.

Have a great weekend!

81. egan - March 28, 2008

I love that woman. She took my post and has made me famous. Woot woot!

82. indianred - March 28, 2008

Looks like she’s gone…I just tried to click on her blog link and its totally deleted. : ) HA!

83. egan - March 28, 2008

I’m sad, she’s folded up shop. Well there’s always next week to borrow more content. Bloggers are damn good at sticking together yo! See, it’s a good thing you blogged about this.

84. katelin - March 28, 2008

that’s crazy that someone would do that. at least she shut down her blog. glad you blogged about this.

85. eyeingtenure - March 28, 2008

Is there some mostly non-fatal way to combine busted kneecaps and napalm? Figure one out, then use it.

86. ana - March 28, 2008

The blog’s been deleted. Short lived identity.

87. silverneurotic - March 28, 2008

Wow, Brandy had a stalker/alter ego. At least she’s dead now (not Brandy, Psycho Chick).

88. mez - March 28, 2008

that is fucked up. What’s the point of even having a blog if you can’t bitch and moan with your own opinions?!

89. Amber - March 28, 2008

Wtf…

Apparently it’s hard to have an imagination and be able to write something original.

Don’t let it bother you, just keeping doing what you do. I’m sure she’s green with envy at all the traffic your site gets ;)

PS… she must of taken her blog down, cause I couldn’t get to it…

90. Kari - March 28, 2008

Well….look at it this way….she admires your writing enough to want to copy it! Now, shall we go torture and maim her? I’ve been watching a lot of CSI….

p.s. I notice other people told you this already but….she’s gone. Deleted. Guess she couldn’t take the heat.

91. Franki - March 28, 2008

i think one of my friends got her shut down some how. bloggers are powerful! well, it’s nice to have found you anyways.

92. Paige Jennifer - March 29, 2008

I’m clearly late to this gabfest ball (sigh). Have one stinkin’ birthday and BAM, you’re out of the loop.

Flattery or not, it sucks. Sadly, not everyone in this world is decent. Clearly calling her out worked. I mean, originally I decided not to visit her site because a beeatch like that doesn’t deserve the traffic. But then curiosity got the best of me. Alas, it’s down. Um, refer to my first paragraph.

93. tipptalk - March 29, 2008

She is gone, so crazy! She must have been getting hate mail!

94. Ashley - March 29, 2008

What a psycho!!!
What kind of person would do that, what is the point of having a blog if you are just ripping off someone else’s. Weird!!!

95. Kate - March 29, 2008

Clearly very flattering, but totally whack! I can’t imagine WANTING to write about anything other than me! I don’t write well like some of my faves out there, and I’ll take ideas and meme’s, with credit of course. But stealing posts and experiences???? It just doesn’t make sense!

96. Mandy - March 29, 2008

That is CRAZY. Seriously. Who does that?

97. egan - March 30, 2008

Yeah, who does that?

98. miss a - March 30, 2008

gosh. What am imposter. I got to this scandal too late and her entire blog is removed. Is it the Chelsea talks Smack one that we’re talking about?

99. Noel - March 30, 2008

Sadly, this sort of thing isn’t uncommon. There was a website a few years back which stole the screen names of a bunch of my friends (we were all on another forum site) and made accounts on another site. This person then ended up posting pictures of “us” and was pretending to be each of us to make her forum site look like it had real people.

It wasn’t until one of us decided to google our old screen names out of boredom that it was discovered–even down to the numbers stuck at the end of the screen name.

Some people live such sad self loathing lives that they wish they can be someone else–even though there’s very little to be done to prove who you are online. Sad, no?

100. Clare - March 30, 2008

How weird that someone would want to steal posts from another persons blog. It seems sad that they would have a blog but none of it is original.
Hope you are okay *hug*.

101. evans - March 30, 2008

102. Julie Q - March 30, 2008

at least you are interesting enough for someone to want to steal from you! take it as a compliment.. and the dumb biatch took her blog down, so just think how humiliating that was for her!!! 102 comments? You’re like my blog idol!

103. justrun - March 30, 2008

Well, I have read and not commented yet but geez, what a joke. I’m glad you posted about this. Along with getting her crap off the internet (for now, anyway) you’ve also reminded everyone to look out for dumbasses like this.
