Glue Sticks and First Licks February 13, 2008

Posted by brandy in Wednesday nights make me frisky, cnn makes my heart beat fast, happiness, i may write about the west wing forever, i should be a cheerleader, it happened this week, it makes sense to me, it's almost like a meme, lists, men, politics, school, the Blitz, the J.O.B..
trackback

Happiness is ….

falling asleep at 8:30pm, grade two creative writing, kicking a satisfyingly large chunk of ice off the bumper of my car, an email out of the blue, hearing someone snoring, all green lights, receiving a Valentine still sticky with glue, hearing a speech that moves me to tears, a strawberry margarita with extra salt, clean sheets, big rings, the return of Jack Shepard, homemade meatballs, 15 kids singing along to Jack Johnson, the feel of new socks, getting it, remote car starting action, someone remembering to not put whipped cream on my hot chocolate, computer access, leaving work while the sun is out, feeling like I’ve said it all, finding my mittens, Blitzer & Anderson, sleeping in, a conversation about how absolutely scary whales are, a stapler full of staples, cheap gas, an apology, 15 glue sticks with all their lids on, Season 4 of the West Wing, being offered the first lick of someone’s popsicle, being offered someone’s piece of coveted KFC in a room full of ham and cheese and finding my journals from junior high.

Life is good.

Happy Valentine’s Day universe! Share the feeling, what’s been making you happy lately?

I like the smell of glue sticks strangely. It always made me feel craftsy.

I can’t comment on the happiness portion of the evening today.

2. Renee - February 13, 2008

I LOVE kicking chunks of ice off my car.

I also love the beau offering to pick up another pint of Ben & Jerry’s, my adviser making my senior thesis a bit more feasible, a really good interview, Scrubs’ triumphant return, blue skies, sunshine, big, slow snowflakes, not wearing long underwear today!, getting a B on a test I barely studied for, Barack’s “Yes We Can” music video, my mom getting a much-needed vacation, and the impending celebration of the finished literature review.

3. Princess Pointful - February 13, 2008

Not only do you work Mr. Blitzer into every post, but now he has his own tag?
Very impressive.

Happiness is no longer talking with a raspy ouchy voice.
I have low standards at the moment.

4. Princess of the Universe - February 13, 2008

Whales are scary?
I prefer to Sawyer to Jack personally. :)

5. poodlegoose - February 13, 2008

I love your references to your kids and your classroom. Those things make me happy too! Especially the leaving work while the sun is still out. It makes the evening feel so much more freeing.

It’s definitely the little things.

Happy Valentines Day to you, too!

6. mcgee - February 13, 2008

what a great list! nice to know i’m not the only one who gets great satisfaction out of kicking big ice chunks off the car. the bigger the better! though i’ve been missing out on that since i’ve moved out west. ah well.

i would have to say leaving work while the sun is still out is a big one for me too. i’ve been noticing lately how the day seems to have gone by so much faster because it’s not dark yet.

7. Vanessa - February 13, 2008

Please don’t think I’m a bad housekeeper, because I probably really am, but I like the denial route sometimes. But what’s been making me happy is my dogs finally getting the idea that its ok to poop on the “outside” side of the door, rather than the “inside” side of it.

8. Jenni - February 14, 2008

Great post…I think I may have to ‘borrow’ it! :)

Oh, and I love Jack too!

9. Lulu - February 14, 2008

Nice post…grade 2 creative writing sounds like fun! My school kids aren`t really old enough to write stories, but they do a good job with pictures…

My new blog has been making me happy, and having the time to study again, and my new inspiration board/wall. Last night looking through old photos on my harddrive made me happy too!!!

10. geekhiker - February 14, 2008

Wow, that’s quite a busy day. ;)

As for the whole V-Day thing: meh, talk to me on the 15th…

11. Nage - February 14, 2008

“getting it” is a reference to the J.O.B. right? Or is it something completely different? Sawyer is a bad boy therefore he’s quite dreamy.

12. mez - February 14, 2008

scrubs season 6 on DVD. <3<3<3

13. Diane Mandy - February 14, 2008

Podcasts with Wolf Blitzer every morning and having coffee in bed with my sweetie!

14. brookem - February 14, 2008

i like the idea of thinking of what makes me happy this anti-val day (im not bitter, im just not partaking in the celebrations). oh, and egan’s “getting it” question made me laugh. and made me think of that song “gettin some” which i enjoy. even when im not. gettin some that is. which im not. but we’re talking about what makes one HAPPY this day, right?

more sunlight, weekend getaways, yoga, men that smell yummy, and chocolate chip cookies for breakfast.

15. CableGirl - February 14, 2008

Happiness is CableDad getting home from work before midnight and watching him give MJ a bath.

Oh yeah, and the fact that today is Thursday which means a new episode of LOST!!!!

16. The Lisa Show - February 14, 2008

This post made me smile, and thought I’d pop over to say that and thank you. I miss teaching kindergarten so much. Happy Valentine’s! What’s making me happy? Making pizza, Ingrid Michaelson, being snarky about Valentine’s, being secretly cheesy anyway, chocolate cake, Barack’s Yes, We Can video, and flipping off douchebags.

17. Evans - February 14, 2008

Filling in the last space on the NYT crossword puzzle, turning off “American Idol” mid Simon’s rant, cooking (defrosting and microwaving) for the ones I love, sleeping in on a 22 degree day in ATL.

18. tiff - February 14, 2008

Jack Shepard, the strike being over, 30 Rock returning in April, Tina Fey hosting SNL later this month, being Barack Obamas contact on Flickr, sending cheesy e-valentines to all my favorite bloggers (you are not immune young lady!!)

19. Dutchess of Kickball - February 14, 2008

extra cozy blankets on the bed, peanut butter, dog kisses, making my blog work correctly, not reading one more valentine’s related blog!

20. Michelle and the City - February 14, 2008

new episodes of project runway and cashmere mafia, my mom visiting, valentine’s day with clancy tonight, making cookies for said date, the container store, carmel apple spices from starbucks

happy valentine’s day!

21. Nilsa S. - February 14, 2008

I love that you appreciate the small things. They’re almost more important than the big ones because they make the world go round!

22. tori - February 14, 2008

I love this! I don’t know if they have ever remembered/gotten right my no whipped cream order though. Seriously. I think I would fall over if I ever didn’t have to scrape it out.

Happy day!

23. pam - February 14, 2008

how fun! I love this post, great idea.

warm covers when it’s cold outside, three cats that greet me at the door when I come home, video games, new epsiodes of LOST, an organized closet, the color red, and a wonderful family.

24. anne - February 14, 2008

fresh flowers, ice tea, macaroni and cheese and ear plugs

25. justrun - February 14, 2008

today? a breakfast burrito I didn’t need, a skinny vanilla latte to balance it out, and later, a fireplace and hopefully some booze. Gotta love the little things. :)

26. Clearlykels - February 14, 2008

Oh, clean sheets day is definitely on the list, as is no ice on the way to work, crisp blue skies, pictures in an albums (they’ve been sitting on top of the album for three weeks), an out of the blue Valentine from a friend, a t-shirt from my favorite band sent across the seas from a cousin, the end of the writer’s strike, m&ms, flirty texting, a completed to do list, a found lost earring, an extra razor when you thought you were out, hot chocolate, hot chocolate with bailey’s. to name a few.

27. littlespoon - February 14, 2008

I would like to go back to grade school now :)

28. emmaenlighted - February 14, 2008

Cosmopolitans tonight!! :)

29. Katrin - February 14, 2008

This is great! I really needed a reason to think about happiness today (or this week? what about this month?)… I hope you don’t mind my posting it on my blog – this is really needed!
Thanks for making me smile today. :) :) :) It’s been a while since I was last offered the first lick. Of anything.

30. Jess - February 14, 2008

These are great! I would add my new, brightly colored spring coat. Now if only the weather would allow me to wear it…

31. finn644 - February 14, 2008

my new floors
Cheap and colourful tulips
Maggie
the fact that it is no longer January

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

32. Froggy - February 14, 2008

The free box of Godiva chocolate that came with the boots I ordered online.

A vintage fur coat.

Being single and still happy on Valentine’s Day for the first time in a looong time.

Life is good indeed :)

Happy Valentine’s Day!!

33. Cheryl - February 14, 2008

Woo! Return of Jack Shepard!!!

But, what about your Josh Lyman love?

34. k - February 14, 2008

happy v-day! i’ll take your whipped cream – yum!!

i’m just happy for no reason, just cuz life is good.

35. Tiffani - February 14, 2008

It makes me happy when I go out in 10 degree weather (w/out a jacket) to scrape off my car and having my “Prince Charming” come out and tell me to get in my car. Because he’s the man and he “should” scrape my car for me.

My puppies snuggling on our bed.

Getting to work ON TIME in these crap snow conditions.

Buying “Prince Charming” a musical keyboard for V Day that made him fall in love with me all over again.

Having a “Prince Charming” on V Day for the first time EVER(well, technically the first).

Reading your blogs make me SO happy, although I barely got the hang of commenting. You are an amazing woman and I love your views on life.

Remembering that today is about LOVE. Not just couples.

Kids giving each other valentine’s cards.

Waking up in the morning and realizing that I’m FANTASTIC.

36. nicoleantoinette - February 14, 2008

Cheddar cheese and apple slices, watching the entire series of the west wing from the beginning with someone whose never seen it (currently on episode 13), and pedicures.

Happy Valentine’s Day hun!

37. Princess Extraordinaire - February 14, 2008

I love your list! Hapiness for me is that I get to wake up to my best friend every day and it still feels like it did when we were first married.

38. Maggie - February 14, 2008

You have a FANTASTIC list!

Happy Valentine’s Day!

39. Valerie - February 14, 2008

Oooh, those are all so good.

Happiness is . .
my new job! And not watching the clock for 5:00 because now I actually have STUFF TO DO! And I get off at 4:30! Not 5:00!

The only thing, though, is with all these new responsibilities, my Google Reader is now at 158 and I haven’t written a new post since Sunday!

40. eyeingtenure - February 14, 2008

Happiness is waking to the sound of Pink Floyd’s “Wish You Were Here.”

41. Michael C - February 14, 2008

Happy Valentine’s Day, Bran!!

42. Deutlich - February 14, 2008

Happy V-day, doll!

Things that’ve been making me happy? My friends being so splendidly awesome to share that they love me, both guys and girls.

I loves it.

43. AlieMalie - February 14, 2008

Anderson, will you be my Valentine?

hehe.

Rocking out to Bach with my 5th graders! Totally awesome to groom the next generation of nerds …

44. Zosia - February 14, 2008

What a lovely list. One of your comments stuck out for me: “an apology” because that is what is making me happy – our government FINALLY apologising to Indigenous Australians, after so many people have been asking for it to happen for years and years. It was really fantastic, and I’m still excited and amazed, and HAPPY!

45. katelin - February 14, 2008

Happy Valentine’s Day! :)

Happiness is an hour left of work…woo!

46. utopia - February 15, 2008

hmmmm that was such an adorable list. mine would be listening to Breakfast at Tiffany’s as I get ready for work each morning, knowing that he is at my place and I get to wake him up in the morning :-) , warm waffles straight from the oven with maple syrup and whipped cream , being able to answer my boss’s queries( i breathe a sigh of relief) not messing up at work( really) , going out for a fancy dinner and knowing that yes I can afford it and don’t have to think a thousand times, a big bottle of my body splash, the smell of my new herbal rose shampoo, he calling me all excited about something at his workplace

47. Carrie - February 15, 2008

Aw.

48. lfar - February 15, 2008

This post made my heart turn to stone. It makes me want to go out and hurt some feelings. You did not at allllllll brighten my day.

49. Damsel in Digress - February 15, 2008

this list made me happy lately.

haaaa.

happy valentine’s day my beloved.

(ps i really just wanted to use the word beloved. thanks for letting me use you like this.)

50. hollywood sucker - February 15, 2008

Happiness is

Hearing “dinner’s ready!”

51. cdp - February 15, 2008

Jack Bauer on dvd, Starbucks card for VD, and the hope of sleeping in tomorrow morning! (but definitely NOT the snoring) :-)

52. Maxie - February 16, 2008

I love Ice Chunks.

What else: Chipotle Burritos, Diet Coke with Splenda, Hitch being on TV right now, Netflix, croutons… i’m sure the list could go on and on.

53. Chelsea Talks Smack - February 16, 2008

Great list. Whales are scary, sort of like the covnersation my little sister and I used to have about Wholly Mammouths being scary, ALL THE TIME. lol.

What makes me happy lately?? Walking down the streets of NYC everyday and learnign about a new city, making new friends, NEW EVERYTHING.

54. alyndabear - February 17, 2008
