What I might have done February 10, 2008
Posted by brandy in I'm a lady. I'm a tramp., confession of the day, friends, i love fragment sentences, i should be a P.S.A., i wish i was a Kennedy, martinis make the world make sense, politics, tequila consequences, vague is vogue, what the hell.trackback
This weekend I might have bought a book on US politics.
And I might have also re-discovered a love for red wine.
And I might have consumed wine and then called people.
And I might have thought it would be THE GREATEST idea to read them my favourite line from The Gettysburg Address.
And I might have actually shed a tear or two while reading it.
And I might have followed all of that up by telling each of them that I LOVE THEM and then letting them know that they are AMAZING and then asking if they wanted me to read my favourite part of the speech again. (Because aren’t the words just… MAJESTIC? And BEAUTIFUL? AND MAJESTICALLY BEAUTIFUL?)
And I might have woke up the next day and realized exactly why I should not own a cell phone.
Seriously. Sigh. Why can’t I just be one of those people who calls everyone and tells them I love them and leave out, you know… quoting speeches?
Speaking of politics, have you read this? Caroline Kennedy is all sorts of awesome. I would sell all my non-essential internal organs just to serve her lunch.
And for the record:
“The world will little note nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here“- Abe “I rock a beard better than you” Lincoln
Lady, you can call me to quote speeches any time. lol
Just reading the line made me teary.
Drunk Dialing strikes again! But that has to be the best topic of discussion during a drunk dial that I have ever heard of!
That WAS Majestically beautiful!
hahahaha you are hysterical. I love that you quote politics when drunk dialing.
LOL! Ah, I think you have a new standard for drunk dialing! Drop the ever popular “I love you man!” and toss in random lines from historical speeches. Brilliant!
Drunk dialing happens to us all at one point in time. I just wonder why I can’t be so prophetic when I’m sober?
Loved the Kennedy article.
I think that’s the perfect use for a weekend. Everyone enjoys a phone call – especially when they learn something from it!
That is a pretty awesome speech quote though.
Free Speech, Free Press, Free Soil, Free Men and Fremont! *hic*

i think it is great that you call and quote such a distinguished man!
CableGirl- You say that now, but would you say it at 3:17am?!!
Elisabeth- Isn’t it fantastic? Oh Abe. I love you.
DOK- Ahh it’s up there. I once had a friend who called a guy and left a message discussing how she was ‘bilingual’ but couldn’t quite say bilingual properly. That might have been my favourite.
POTU- It’s the word ‘majestically’ that has me puzzled. I hardly ever use that word, but a few drinks in- suddenly it’s my new favourite word that applies to EVERYTHING
Ashley- Thanks. I’m thinking it really hammers home just how nerdy I am.
tpgoddess0103- Thank you! Now go out and meet the standard!
Vanessa- Oh me too! I’m pretty sure I’ve discovered the meaning of life while laying on a kitchen floor.
Maggie- I’m going to console myself with your comment. I have to say, I really do like it when I get calls from friends, though I don’t know how much I would love a drunk call talking about Abe. Ahh, who am I kidding, I would probably love it.
Cheryl- Isn’t it??
eyeingtenure- I’m going to remember that for next time.
angie- Ahh, but would you think it great if I was calling you??
You could call me, I think that’s sort of endearing. I mean, I haven’t heard the Gettysburg address in ages!
And I totally dorked it out in American History, Civics, etc. so I am right there with you.
Ha, I swear we live parallel lives. So something I would do. Lord help US.
That is hysterical!!! I love that you were drunkenly quoting politics. I used to believe that there should be a breathalyzer on my cell phone, but after that, no way!
You are fantastic.
If you had my number I would feel so sad if you DIDN’T do that!
I do that to people with the best parts of all my snobby literature.
Dude – love that. Just today I started text msging pple with random quotes from Time Magazine…and that was without the wine.
I remember I read the Kennedy endorsement first thing upon getting to the office on the Monday after it came out. Loved it – so powerful. And also, what I thought then, and then again after will.i.am’s description of how watching the new hampshire speech moved him, is that so many pple experience the same feelings after watching Obama campaign. Like everyone has felt personally touched and inspired and has a story to share.
Dreamy.
I would have guessed “the last full measure of devotion”…but the irony of that other line is pretty poetic…
Yes…I am a geek.:-)
justrun- See, but you are American so I feel that being dorky about the history of your country makes sense. But for me? What’s my excuse??!
brookem- Imagine the both of us doing that in RI? I think the world would explode with our awesomeness.
OC- Breathalyzer on the phone sounds genius. Seriously. I was CRYING. Who cries about the Gettysburgh address? People who need to get off the sauce.
Mllealexis- Nice! I love the idea that someone else drunk bombs people with unexpected material.
HC- Yep, it’s definitely fantastic. I love that she’s coming out and supporting someone she approves of. Ditto Maria Shriver- her coming out in California, how awesome was that??
AM- I LOVE that line too. Such brilliance. I’m pretty sure Toby quotes it in the West Wing too. Oh man, now I have to go read it again…
I think you are better for calling and quoting speeches, I HATE people that call every time they are out to tell you they love you.
Now, if someone was willing to tell me an awesome quote, I may just have to answer the phone.
By the way that quote is awesome, one to live by, encouraging..blah blah I could go on!
Be proud you are not an, “I LOVE YOU” caller!
Ashley= Aww thanks! You do know how to make a girl feel better!!
Haha. Nothing like drunk dialing people to quote The Gettysburg Address. I might have to try that soon. I read Caroline’s piece last week. It’s incredibly beautiful. Just the title alone made me tear up.
LOL, I enjoy drunk calls from friends, I’m sure I would have been happily amused to hear you quote your favorite lines from the Gettysburg Address. I would have been twice as amused making fun of your for it the next day. All out of love, of course : )
Ok, seriously? You are a better American than I am…how sad is that?! I honestly wish more American’s had your respect and appreciation for politics and the presidential race. You could teach us all a thing or two. Thankfully, I am able to learn by reading your work here.
) Keep it up, Brandy (even the sappy late night cell phone calls…)!
*chortle* I’m curious (and if you’ve posted about this before), where do you think your fascination with American politics comes from?
Your blog was recommended to me by Google Reader and I’m glad it make recommendations! I cracked the heck up at this post! I’ve done my fair share of embarrassing things while inebriated.
