Happiness has a furry tail June 15, 2007

I have to admit, I’m a little nervous about today. It’s my last day at the prep school and although I was only teaching the little future prime ministers and computer programmers for a few weeks, they were easy to fall in love with. I’m hopefully going to be able to squeeze out a few tears before I see them, because like I told Anne, nothing is worse than doing the ugly cry with snot all over your face gently weeping a goodbye to kids, while pouring out your heart that you wish them all the best and they keep looking to see if it’s home time yet.

It just hurts the ego.

I had told my mom this and she said she would send me something to cheer me up. Thus dear readers, I present to you, Lucy, the happiest dog on the entire planet:

little-lucy.jpg

My mom’s dog had puppies a while back and Lucy was like the Sanjaya of the pack. She stood out, but all the other dogs were much better at being dogs and following rules, while Lucy just always looked happy to be alive and licking all her two thousand parts. She was the last one to be picked. Which shocked me because I’d rather have a happy dog who might be a ‘delayed learner’, rather than a dog who is as smart as Connie Chung (because today she is the epitome of smart, please try to keep up) but looks like they want to drown themselves in their water bowl.

Once I saw this, I realized today just has to be a great. If only because it’s impossible to see a smiling puppy and for it to be a bad day. It’s like those days were you find $100 bills in your pocket, those days are always great. Not that it’s ever happened to me, but I can’t imagine a day like THAT ever going downhill.

Enjoy, have a good weekend and buy me a present wear some sunscreen.

I love Lucy! And the Sanjaya line was a riot ;-)

2. Paige - June 15, 2007

What a cutie.

3. anne - June 15, 2007

oh what a wonderufl thing. yeah puppies! good luck on the last day.

4. brandy - June 15, 2007

LisaBinDaCity- I love Lucy too! And the Sanjaya way really was the only way I could properly explain it.

Paige- I know! I’m not sure if it gets any better than a picture of a puppy on a FRIDAY! Woot! Woot!

Anne- Thanks Ms. Anne. Have a great weekend!

5. Cyndi - June 15, 2007

Today IS going to be a great day! Puppy pictures, and I found $3 in my lab coat pocket! Whoo!! (perhaps I’ll find the other $97 later)

6. Yummy Sushi Pajamas - June 15, 2007

Aw, what an adorable little puppy! Now your day has to go well, because how could it not with well wishes from that fabulous furball!

Hope all is wonderful on your last day! What’s next?

7. Michael C - June 15, 2007

Imagine the day you would have if Lucy trotted up with a $100 bill she found. I’d have to die that day knowing that no day could ever be better.

Connie Chung intimidates me. But then so does my coffee maker…

8. justrun - June 15, 2007

Aw, puppies are the best. She is way more tolerable than Sanjaya, though. Not that I even watched that kid, but still.

9. silverneurotic - June 15, 2007

I hope the day goes well for you.

and that is an adorable dog..l think I would have taken her in a heartbeat.

10. Amanda - June 15, 2007

Ok, yeah. That puppy is adorable! I have always been the one to cling to the runts of the litter. Always. I grew up on an acreage and we always had puppies and kittens running around (because I would go find the mama cats after they had their kittens and bring them to the house…no freaky feral cats at our house!) and the runts were always my favorite. We had one where I think the mama must have jumped on him or something, because his head was always shaking (we were kind of bad and named him “Stevie” after Stevie Wonder…), but he was the sweetest little thing!! Too bad he got ran over like a lot of our dumb, inbred cats did.

I’m glad that you are so incredibly happy (even though you are going to be a little sad with the school stuff) about today. Your happiness definitely rubs off and I’m smiling after reading this (although, I was already a little loco this morning when I woke up…lots of energy). Have a good weekend!

11. Kathryn - June 15, 2007

Lucy is priceless! (and loved the line about her licking her 2,000 parts :))

those 2 weeks flew by - what’s next for you?

12. Ally - June 15, 2007

So do you have the rest of the summer off? I hope your day has gone very well and that you enjoy the weekend!

13. brandy - June 15, 2007

Because my class is playing ‘runescape’….

Cyndi- Lol, oh you are funny. But my fingers are crossed that the $97 is found!! (And take comfort in knowing that like $3 American, is pretty much $97 Canadian)

Yummy Sushi Pajamas- Ohh, so much stuff is up next! Bon Jovi concert (because that’s how I roll), a few big roadtrips, J.T concert (where I will most likely scream like a 13 year old, I’m just saying). I’m excited to hear about what everyone else is doing for the summer..

MC- If Lucy would have done that, I’m pretty sure that would be the same day my one true love would stop his press tour for Mr. Brooks and meet me for a dish of gluten free pasta. Okay, the obsesion is starting to scare me. And really, your coffee maker intimidates you? I feel that way about my alarm clock, but refuse to drink coffee, so I don’t know how I feel about coffeemakers. Maybe I should get one and just see how I feel about it. Test the waters, so to speak.

justrun- Yeah, I agree. Plus, she has way better hair than Sanjaya! :)

silverneurotic- Next time I visit Lucy, I will tell her. I suspect me telling her that people like her and would have taken her, will boost her self-esteem.

Amanda- Another acreage girl! Hooray! I find it crazy that city people are willing to spend hundreds and hundreds of dollars on a cat. I just remember growing up and they were like,… everywhere. And now that I’ve made my family sound like crazy cat people, I will end this. (It’s wrong, but I love that you named that cat “Stevie” ;)

Kathryn- That was my favourite line too! ;) Now, I’m going to spend some more time with friends, fly home tomorrow, go out for a ‘girls night’ tomorrow night and then start planning my trip back to Calgary for the CALGARY STAMPEDE, because such things need to be captialized..

Ally- Hmm, I technically could have the rest of the summer off, but I decided to work with a college and create 3 musical theatre camps. Because really, why wouldn’t I want to be creating dance numbers for 8 year olds in my spare time? Wow, that sentence sounded weird..

14. Michael C - June 15, 2007

Coffee tastes awful. I have to put so much stuff into it just to be able to tolerate it. Even though, I fear I have become addicted. My alarm clock also intimidates me. Ohh, the long sleepless nights I have spent in a staring contest with that lousy SOB. No matter how strong I think I am, I still rise when it tells me to. I am an obedient slave to my alarm clock and my favorite radio station doesn’t come in as well as it used to. Now I’m just depressed…
;-)

In Grade 1 I had a teacher that I adored, but she was on sick leave for a few months. I remember the class telling the sub how much we all missed her, and the sub told us off for being rude and hurting her feelings. That memory stayed with me - I find it just as silly now as I did when I was 6.

17. The Exception - June 15, 2007

How could one not have a great day after seeing that puppy!

Enjoy your last day.

18. egan - June 15, 2007

“Girl, I sat back and thought about the things that mean a lot to me. Girl, you know it’s true…”

Um, stupid Milli Vanilli invading my precious headspace. It’s great to hear how much of an impact the kids had on you. I’m going to guess you had a similar impact on them too. Have a nice weekend.

19. Jennifer - June 15, 2007

What a cute wittle puppy!

Have a great weekend! Hope you didn’t have snot pouring out of your nose when you bid the kiddos farewell!

20. HippieChyck - June 15, 2007

i can’t believe you now have a puppy! how awesome. looking forward to tales of frolicking in the dog park, panting on the couch, burrowing in the back yard…

21. desiree - June 15, 2007

That pup is precious!!!

22. Airam - June 15, 2007

I’m in love with your puppy.

23. Brillig - June 15, 2007

Awww, so darling!

24. Beth - June 16, 2007

She is SOO cute. I want a puppy. Every morning on my way to work I walk past another company thats only small and so the owner brings his dogs to work - they’re two little westies. They haven have a gate set up over the entrance to the building so they can get some sun when its warm.

25. question girl - June 16, 2007

i am glad you got a great experience out of being w/ the mini-prepsters….

and your puppy is cute…

i too got one of the “unwanted ones” - he had been badly abused.. but he is doing much better now & is the center of my day… no matter what my mood is, when i get home he makes me happy (even if i have to clean up poo)

26. brookem - June 17, 2007

love that puppy. how could one not?
hope your last day went well! sounds like it was an amazing experience for you.
i forgot sunscreen and woa baby was that a bad idea.

27. Amanda - June 17, 2007

It was wrong that we named him “Stevie”! My dad hated all the cats at our place - he did think we were crazy cat people! But we never had mouse problems!

Hope you had a great weekend!

28. Clare - June 17, 2007

Awww that is one cute puppy.

29. thethinker - June 17, 2007

Awww…. how cute.

My dog was picked the same way. The last, and most different one, in the bunch to be picked.

30. spotlighton - June 17, 2007

I couldn’t help but notice that behind the cute puppy there is a one eye photo… does it run in the family??

31. Sally - June 18, 2007

so cute!

32. Sarah - June 18, 2007

This goes back to the saying I created for myself during one particularly heinous week during college (I wanted to say high school, but alas, it was college), “When in doubt, hug a dog.” I can just look at the adorable pictures of my sweet dog and her smiling face and know that the world is a wonderful place. I know, I know, people say that about children, but it’s oh so much more cute when a puppy licks your face all over than when a child does it…

33. Lefty - June 18, 2007

Actually, I had a day when I found two $100 bills in my pockets, but it DID go downhill from there. Later that afternoon, I lost both my arms when I accidentally stuck them in the garbage disposal.

That’s why they call me Lefty.

34. Michelle - June 18, 2007

I’ve been gone for a week, and there are already a dozen posts up! I’m trying catch up here!

That puppy is ADORABLE! I’ve been wanting a puppy forever now, but my landlord won’t let me have any pets :( But when I do get one, it’s going to be a big, fat, hairy, happy one!

35. Aaron - June 21, 2007

Who the hell finds $100 bills in their pockets! I need to go clubbin’ with you! :D
