Love in the times of Chlamydia May 25, 2007
Posted by brandy in overheard, quote of the day, what the hell, work, youth.trackback
This is the scintillating conversation that I just heard outside my office. It’s moments like this that I love, love, love my job and thank the big G for the existence of summer school.
College Girl 1: Do you think he will call? I mean, I like him AND Matt, but mostly him, even though I know like, nothing about him.
College Girl 2: I dunno.
College Girl 1: And I know, it’s not going to be like, anything serious right? It’s the summer, but I still want him to call.
College Girl 2: Hmm.
College Girl 1: And it’s like, fucking college. You can get chlamydia from anyone. He gave it to me, and I STILL want him to call. Shit. I hardly know him but I just feel like there’s something there, you know?
I mean really. Who hasn’t been there?
he gave her chlamydia!? oh dear lord. i am soooo glad i am not in college anymore. yay for 30’s!
I’m with sizzle- yay for 30’s!
But yes, haven’t we ALL been there??
oh yeah. just another college story.
I usually prefer men giving me flowers, jewelry and presents in that vein…not chlamydia. To each their own I suppose.
he’s just not that into you if he gives you chlamydia and then doesn’t call.
LOL that’s a great conversation to overhear :). Thanks for sharing that.
*raises hand*
I haven’t been there! (Thank God)
Ah, standards!
sizzlesays- I’m just so glad I stopped getting chlamydia from people when I’m pretty vague on their last name. But really, what’s a girl to do?
brookem- So sad!
Ruby- Wait, you prefer flowers over chlamydia? Really? Flowers die, and chlamydia stays around so much longer (I think??).
HippieChyck- You said it!
Clare- One of the perks/downsides to working in a college is stuff like this ALL THE TIME
Aaron- Aaron, don’t lie. This is a sharing forum. Just be honest.
abbersnail- Yeah. But seriously you guys, besides the fact that I think that was just.. so sad (!), I wondering how many people are now going to get to my blog by searching chlamydia because you know, I keep typing it.
Yikes. Dump that gigolo! And get tested for all STDs. Sorry for the PSA.
Welcome to my liiiiiiiiiiiiiiife. Sometimes you just want to shake some sense into them! Instead, I give out condoms with an alarming frequency!
Bre/egg- Perhaps we should approach a major tv network and create our own PSA for the future leaders of tomorrow? Something to think about this weekend, no?
Uh yeah there is something there - it is the burning and itching of a STD oh and your dignity too.
don’t think you have some new lurker who didn’t delurk yesterday as instructed - i was messing around and forgot about it. that witty witty comment above - yeah that was me. don’t go getting all pissy about lurkers!
maybe she’s hoping they will be the new poster couple for VD’s? Like that herpes ad that is in all the mags right now … poor soul
What is Chalmydia?!
Bungi- a Sexually Transmitted Disease, and according to my research , the most ocmmon of all STD’s in the US. If it’s left untreated in women, it can cause infertility. Wow. Even I didn’t know that last bit. See, my mom was right. I really do learn something new every day. Thanks blog.
Actually my favorite part was her friend’s response. She really seemed to be invested and interested in that conversation…
ps- bloody mary attachement in the email i wrote you back last night.
LOL- I was never that stupid when I was that young - NEVER and thank god!
“Damn those guys and their sexually transmitted diseases. Life was so much easier when they’d just toy with our emotions. Shame on them.”
Seriously? Seriously! Seriously? Seriously.
Wow! She said that he gave her chlamydia!?! I don’t think I’d ever say something like that aloud to another human. No way!
…and she still wants him to call? still expects him to call?? I know I’ve had some stupid thoughts when it comes to boys, but seriously…it’s conversations like this that give new meaning to the term “self respect.” Thanks for over-hearing and sharing with us.
p.s. my favorite part is that you tagged it “what the hell”.
This creeps me out, because I would totally never put myself in that position in the first place. Ew. I think some of these youngins’ need a slap in the face and a good talkin’ to so they can realize how stupid they’re being!
That’s hilarious! Poor, pathetic, completely ignorant girl.
Oh crap. If some guy gave me chlamydia I don’t think I’d wait for him to call. I might pay him a visit that he’d well remember. Crap.
Wow…nothing like putting your health first, huh? Thats absolutely astonishing. But on some level I think we’ve all been there at some point. I was there for about the last 6 months I think!
Yeah, I’m not surprised she feels like there is “something there”! Soooo funny, and love, love, love the title of this post! x
Oh, geez.
Shaking my head and laughing at the same time.
Anne- Lol, thanks!!
Kathryn- I’ve SEEN that ad! And is it just me, or is the guy kinda smoking hot? Herpes and all??
Cheryl- I know! That was what actually made me giggle. Her friend acted like this was no big deal and I’m in my office two feet a way with my mouth hanging open transcribing every word. Maybe life after college is just so boring to life IN college…
Brookem- Got it!
Bungi- No problem. It was a nice refresher for me since the last time I had to know so much about STD’s was in grade 11 “life management” class.
B- Yeah, it’s tough to hear stuff like that. I wanted to give her a shake but someone that felt out of place since you know, I didn’t know her…
Egan- Exactly! I mean, I miss the good ol days when the guy wouldn’t call. Now he’s calling and giving me STD’s! At least with not calling I wasn’t having to pay for medical assistance to attempt to cure what he gave me. Wait, can you cure this, or can you just treat it? All the questions that come from one small conversation…
Carrie- And you just typed what was going through my mind when I was listening. Pretty much word for word!
Jennifer- What about if you were drunk off guiness? I think you would spill then!!
Sarah- thanks! I considered tagging it ‘life lessons’ but then realized, I was scared someone would be thinking this would be something that I was just learning was possibly a bad choice. What the hell just fits so perfectly. I’m always surprised how many posts I end up being able to add it to. I can’t decide if that’s a good thing or bad thing…
nastet03- It’s not that she made a mistake or got herself in a situation like that, it’s the fact that she still wanted him to call afterwards, that really got me, I think!
thethinker- Yeah, I think it was pretty sad all around…
Heather- That made me laugh out loud! Loved it!
Beth- On some level I suppose, like the level of ‘denial’ or “choosing someone who is bad for us”, most of us have been there. I like to think that we’ve done a bit better in choosing the guy however!!
Chica- Agreed! And thanks, I felt after “attention lurkers!”, I needed something a little more… academic
SWF41- I admit, when I heard it there was more head shaking and less laughter. Now, I’m laughing a bit but still feeling pretty darn glad I’m not her.
wow. and i used to think i guy like me when he gave me chocolates.
I’m not sure what’s more frightening - that he gave her chlamydia or that she’s so comfortable with that that she flippantly just says so out loud.
It’s a lot more exciting than my job…
‘Are we collating this or three hole punching it?’
See what I mean??
Is this what it means to lower ones standards? She must have an ounce of pride to NOT want to date the dude that gave her an STD!!!!
Ok my comment didn’t stick … unlike the Chlamydia.
What I wrote (from what I can remember):
Is this what it means to lower ones standards? That girl has to have an ounce of pride for herself to NOT want to date the dude who gave her an STD.
(I’m going to feel real dumb if the other comment shows up and you have two of the same comments back to back)
Does she want more STD’s?
Sharing STD’s…yeah, that’s real love right there.
idiots.
Nothing says love like the clap…
Brrr- Maybe STD’s are the new chocolates?
Jurgen- Yeah, the talking loud about it in a crowded hallway was something that left me thinking… “really?!”
Michael C- Hey! Without you loose papers would be everywhere and the world would be madness. Hold on to that thought.
Airam- I do the double comment thing all the time, but no worries. I think that’s the sad part too, that her standards would allow this to be okay. Sigh. Youth.
angelcjr- I get the feeling she would be open to the idea if it meant more time with the boy. Crazy!
silverneurotic- I think that could be all hallmark card. (minus the idiots part!
)
sandra- No,… THAT comment could be a greeting card!!
Airam just made me feel better. My first comment didn’t show up for a while, and is now # 2 up there…
I don’t think my second one ever appeared at all.
It’s been happening to me all weekend, I’m starting to take it personally!
Clap clap clap clap clap….this post makes me want to clap my hands. clap clap clap clap clap….
